Pottery Studio at English Field Pottery

In August of 2018 I started getting a room ready to fulfill my dream of 50 years, my own studio. It was a room I added to the back of my house, about 10 X 10 feet, plenty of room for what I wanted, so I thought. Today I am using 7 rooms for my studio and I am in the process of adding one more. I hope that you enjoy looking around my studio by way of a few pictures.

This is my main working area, it is here that I create all of my pots. This in my furnace room at home. It got too cold my first winter so I move in here and have never moved out. it is very cozy for me.

Bisque Storage - I try to keep a back stock of pottery in the bisque stage, this helps me restock after a busy show
Here is the finished clay after it has gone through the pug mill three to four times. Now it is time for me to put it into plastic bags to store until needed.

The Glaze Room is where I hand mix all glazes that are used in the studio. I keep about 1000 pounds of glaze ingredients on hand.

Glazing Pots - I dip most of my pots, I feel that it gives me a even coating of the glaze. It is important to have the glaze at the right consistency, like light cream. After I glaze the pot I clean the bottom to insure that the pot does not stick to the shelf of the kiln when the glazes melts during the firing.

Kiln Room - I have three ceramic kilns for the studio. one is manual, one is computerized and the small one on the right is my test kiln for small firings. I fire the kilns on a average of 3-4 times per week. New Skutt kiln arrived in Feb.

Show Room - This is my sales store, it will open for 2021.
